Chandigarh: The Health Department is on alert regarding corona in Punjab. On December 26, a corona patient has been reported in Patiala. With this, the number of active cases in the state has gone up to 38. In the meantime, no patient has recovered.

Questions are constantly being raised on the low Covid testing in Punjab. An example of this is that not a single Covid test was conducted in Fazilka and Mansa on December 26. Kapurthala and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar have also conducted only one Covid test each. The big question is how will patients suffering from corona be identified due to lack of testing and how will the efforts to contain the epidemic be successful.
According to the data, no tests were conducted in Fazilka and Mansa. Ferozepur, Kapurthala-1, Malerkotla-4, Moga-4, Muktsar-2, Pathankot-6, Ropar-2 and SBS Nagar-1 conducted only five tests. Apart from these, 18 to 50 Covid tests have not been done in most districts. Of these, 22 tests were conducted in Bathinda, 30 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 22 in Gurdaspur, 18 in Hoshiarpur, 32 in SAS Nagar and 45 in Tarn Taran. The highest number of corona tests have been done in Jalandhar-658, Patiala-140, Sangrur-140, Ludhiana-122, Amritsar-69 and Faridkot-61.
On December 26, the impact of Covid testing was negligible across Punjab, while on December 25, a total of 5497 Covid samples were taken. With this, this figure came down to just 2050 on December 26. On December 25, 5,140 people were tested for Covid, but on December 26, the figure remained at 1,432.
