DLSA, SAS Nagar completes campaign “Legal Literacy at the Doorstep”

Punjabenews: District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar under the directions of Mr. Justice Tejinder Singh Dhindsa, Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar and under the guidance of Sh. Harpal Singh, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, DLSA, SAS Nagar, carried out Campaign under title “Legal Literacy at the Doorstep” in a far flung village Badarpur of District SAS Nagar from 10.12.2022 to 18.01.2023. To carry out the campaign a team consisting of a Panel Lawyer, a community Para Legal Volunteer and 30 Law students of Chandigarh University, Gharuan was constituted which was imparted training at Law Department, Chandigarh University Gharuan by Sh. Arun Gupta, Member Secretary and Ms. Smriti Dhir, Additional Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar regarding modalities to carry out the campaign like procedure to visit the houses, questions to be asked, requirements of particular household etc. besides basic training of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, Hindu Marriage Act, NDPS Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Arms Act, Punjab Excise Act, Permanent Lok Adalat and public utility services, Legal Services Authorities Act and Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Act. The team visited village Badarpur for survey and interacted with the residents and found that they were not aware about women specific offences and their rights as well as offences against marriage, domestic violence offences under POCSO Act, NDPS, Excise Act and Arms Act as well as free legal services, Permanent Lok Adalat, Helpline numbers and Victim Compensation Schemes. So, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar organized a legal awareness programme in the village on 18.01.2023. Sh. Baljinder Singh Mann, Secretary, DLSA addressed the gathering and made the people aware about Free Legal Services, their rights and duties as well as compensation Schemes. Sh. Mohinder Singh, BDPO also remained present in the programme on the behalf of the District Administration and assured the people that all 12 applications pending with different departments as pointed out by them during the campign shall be processed without any delay .
