MBBS intern commits suicide in Amritsar over castiest remarks, NCSC chairman Sampla seeks action taken report

Amritsar News: Taking strong notice of the incident wherein an MBBS intern committed suicide in a hostel of Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College after being upset over casteist remarks being passed by college teachers, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), on the orders of its Chairman Vijay Sampla, issued a notice to the Amritsar district administration officials and asked them to submit an action taken report, immediately.

  As per the information received by the NCSC from news stories that were published in several newspapers, the victim’s mother alleged that her daughter was upset over casteist remarks being passed by the college teachers who used to say that they would not let her become a doctor.

    Taking immediate action, the NCSC Commission asked the Divisional Commissioner (Jalandhar division), the Inspector General of Police (Border Range), the Deputy Commissioner (Amritsar district) and the Commissioner of Police (Amritsar district) to investigate the matter and to submit the report, immediately, through post or email, based on the facts and information on the action taken on the allegation/matter.

    Sampla cautioned the officers that if action taken report is not received within the stipulated time, then Commission might exercise the powers of the civil court conferred on it under article 338 of the Constitution of India and issue a summon for personal appearance before the commission in Delhi.
