Who is Amritpal Singh? In what cases were the police looking for him? Read

Punjab E News: Amritpal Singh, a radical preacher from Punjab and head of “Waris Punjab De”, surrendered before the police in Punjab’s Moga district in the early hours of Sunday.

According to sources, the police have taken him from Punjab to Dibrugarh. This step has been taken to avoid the law and order situation in Punjab.

Amritpal has been booked under the NSA. Apart from this, there are many cases against him, including murder, kidnapping. Two cases are at Ajnala police station in Amritsar.

In fact, the police had arrested Lovepreet Singh Toofan, a close aide of Amritpal. Angered by this, Amritpal along with his supporters attacked the Ajnala police station with weapons on February 23.

The police had put up barricades to stop the mob, but Amritpal’s supporters broke it and entered inside and rescued their accomplice. Six policemen were also injured in the incident. After this incident, he came on the radar of the police

Amritpal is originally from Jallupur village in Punjab and has studied up to Class 12. He studied in the village high school. In 2012, he moved to Dubai, where he ran a transport business.

Most of his relatives live in Dubai. His name had cropped up in the murder of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Punjab last year. The victim’s family had requested the police to add Amritpal’s name in the entire case.

In such a situation, the police took action and placed him under house arrest in Singawala village.

30-year-old Amritpal Singh is married. He married Kirandeep Kaur, a UK-based NRI girl, in a simple ceremony in his native village on February 10 this year. Kirandeep is originally from Kularan village in Jalandhar, but her family settled in England some time ago.

It is known that the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organization of which he is the president, was created by actor-activist Deep Sidhu. But Amritpal Singh, who returned from Dubai a few months ago after his death in a road accident on February 15, 2022, took charge of the organisation. He created the organisation’s website and started connecting people with it. However, he is now in police custody.

Amritpal was also being called Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale 2.0 in the state for the last few days. The reason is that he was also demanding a separate country Khalistan for Sikhs. In 1980, Bhindranwale had also raised the said demand for Sikhs, causing a stir across the state. Singh, tried to look like Bhindranwale, wears a heavy turban and makes provocative speeches that energise the youth.
