US Congress introduces bill to declare Diwali holiday
Washington: A prominent US lawmaker has introduced a bill in Parliament proposing to declare Diwali a federal holiday. “Diwali is one of the most important days of the year for billions of people around the world and countless families and communities in New York and the US,” Grace Meng told reporters at a digital news conference after introducing the bill.
The Diwali Day Bill, which will become law once it is approved by Parliament and the President, will be the 12th federal holiday in the US.
