Priyanka Gandhi To Spearhead Congress Poll Campaign
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will soon begin campaigning for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election, which is scheduled for November 12, while Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to join her
According to the sources, Rahul will not participate in the election campaign due to his commitment to the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.
Priyanka will alone take the charge of campaign in Himachal, sources added.
According to sources, Priyanka will hold four meetings and four road shows in Himachal in the next two weeks.
Last week, the Congress released its list of campaigners for the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, which included Rahul Gandhi’s name among those of the party’s outgoing president Sonia Gandhi, party president-elect Mallikarjun Kharge, and party leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Ashok Gehlot, Bhupesh Baghel, and Anand Sharma.
The Congress has made a host of promises to woo the voters in the state. These include restoration of old pension scheme, 300 units of free power, payment of Rs 1,500 to women and government jobs to all those working on outsourced employment, which are catching the attention of voters so far.
In 2017 assembly polls, the BJP bagged 44 seats and the Congress 21 in the 68-member assembly, with the ruling party getting a vote share of 48.8 per cent and the grand old party 41.7 per cent.
In 2012, the Congress had won the assembly polls bagging 36 seats and the BJP could get only 26.
The Himachal assembly election (Himachal Vidhan Sabha election) will be held in a single phase on November 12. The deadline for filing nominations is October 25, and the counting of votes for the Himachal Pradesh assembly election will take place on December 8, according to the Election Commission Of India (ECI).
