Punjab Governor responds to CM: Government’s assembly session not legal; All four bills, including the gurdwara act amendment, violate the law

Punjab E News: Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has responded to chief minister Bhagwant Mann’s letter calling for early signing of the Sikh Gurdwaras Act, 1925. Governor Purohit has termed the special session of the AAP government called on June 19-20 as unconstitutional. At the same time, he has described these bills passed in these 2 days as a violation of the law.
    The governor replied to the CM that the assembly summoned on 19-20 was not as per the law. All the four bills passed in it are in violation of the law. The governor said he would seek the opinion of the country’s attorney general on the matter. Only then will he decide on the bills passed
It is worth mentioning that CM Bhagwant Mann had written a letter to the Governor seeking approval of the Amendment Act in the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925.
These 4 bills were passed
    1. The Punjab government had amended the Gurdwara Act 1925 in this session. After which CM said that after this, Gurbani will be broadcast free from the Golden Temple.
    2. The second bill was made regarding the chancellor of universities of Punjab. It was said that now the chancellor of the universities will not be the governor but the chief minister.
    3. The third bill was about the appointment of DGP in Punjab. It said that now the panel for DGP will not be sent to UPSC. The state government will form a 7-member committee. He will decide on it.
    4. The fourth bill was about the central government withholding RDF funds. It said that if the Center does not give funds, then the state government will go to the Supreme Court.
