Paddy procurement crosses halfway mark in Jalandhar

Jalandhar News: With the procurement of paddy crossing the half way mark in Jalandhar, the district administration has further expedited the process of lifting and transportation of grains by as more than 92 % of paddy procured till October 29 already lifted from the grain markets.

      Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Monday said that 10.58 lakh metric ton of paddy was expected to procured during the ongoing Kharif Marketing season. He said that till October 29, 563834-MT paddy has been arrived in the grain markets of the district of which 544218-MT has already been purchased which was more than half of the expected target of paddy.

      While disclosing further details, Sarangal said that till so far, He said that as per details, 204007-MT paddy procured by Pungrain, 141152-MT by Markfed, 141832-MT by Punsup, 56176-MT by Punjab State Warehouse Corporation and 1052-MT paddy by private traders.

      Sarangal also said that payments worth Rs 1118 crore had also been cleared to farmers in Jalandhar.

      Reiterating firm commitment of the Punjab government to complete ongoing Kharif Marketing season smoothly, Sarangal said that officers were already directed to ensure adequate arrangements in the grain markets to ensure farmers do not face any kind of the problem. He said that prompt lifting had been ensured in the grain markets to ensure that there was no glut in the markets.
