Canada prepares to cap on international students amid housing crisis
Ottawa: Canada’s Housing Minister, Mark Miller, said that he is contemplating limiting the influx of international students in the coming months, citing the escalating unemployment and housing crisis in the country.
oNotably, housing costs have surged, making home purchases increasingly unaffordable for the populace. The minister, however, did not specify the extent to which the government is contemplating reductions in housing infrastructure, as reported by a local news.
During an interview with a local channel, Miller emphasized the need for federal government discussions with state governments to ensure that those failing in their responsibilities take concrete measures to control these figures based on absolute numbers.
Regarding the current number of international students in Canada, Miller expressed concern, labeling it as alarming.
Describing the situation as a structure spiraling out of control, Miller mentioned that he is considering the prospect of limiting the number of international students in the first and second quarters of this year to alleviate the strain on housing demand.
