Following the demise of former Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, Rinku left the Congress and joined the AAP.
Subsequently, he received a ticket from AAP and won the MP election, defeating Congress candidate Karamjeet Kaur Chaudhary by 58,691 votes.
