Driverless goods train runs 70Km at 100kmph in Punjab, causes panic

New Delhi: A goods train halted at Kathua station in Jammu suddenly began moving without a driver, likely due to a slope towards Pathankot. The train was brought to a stop near Uchi Bassi in Hoshiarpur.

Railway authorities initiated an investigation into the incident, which occurred around 7:30 in the morning. Notably, the goods train was equipped with two engines.

Upon receiving reports of the driverless train, alarm bells rang across the entire Ferozepur division, prompting emergency measures along the Jammu Tawi line stations.

An accident relief train was promptly dispatched behind the goods train. Eventually, the goods train was halted at Uchi Bassi, with one engine turned off and the other still running.
