SC refuses to hear plea seeking removal of Kejriwal as Delhi CM

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a petition against Arvind Kejriwal’s continuation as the Chief Minister of Delhi even after being jailed, stating, “We cannot do this.”

The petitioner argued that CM Kejriwal is not leaving the post due to personal interests. Kejriwal’s incarceration is affecting many important tasks, but the Supreme Court stated that it is within the jurisdiction of the LG to address this matter.

The court cannot issue an order for the removal of someone from the post. The Supreme Court emphasized that it is a matter of justification, but after the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, there is no legal basis to seek his removal from the position of Chief Minister.

In fact, following Kejriwal’s arrest by the ED in the case related to Delhi’s liquor policy, a petition seeking his removal from the post of Chief Minister was filed in court.
