Punjab declares holidays in schools due to scorching heat

Chandigarh: In Punjab, schools have been closed due to the scorching heat. Due to the heat wave, it has become difficult for people to get out of the house.

On Sunday, Bathinda in Punjab recorded a maximum temperature of 46.4 degrees, which was 5.3 degrees above normal. The Meteorological Department has denied any relief at present.

A red alert has been issued for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala and Mansa in Punjab for the next four days.

The MeT department has warned that the temperature in Punjab may increase by two to three degrees in the next few days. If the situation remains the same, then for the first time in May, the mercury can cross 50 degrees. The Meteorological Department has also issued advisory to avoid heat wave.
