Toll closed for 40 days: Farmers and NHAI face off at Ludhiana Ladowal toll plaza

Chandigarh: Punjab’s most expensive toll plaza has been closed for the last 40 days, and all vehicles are passing through without paying taxes. So far, Rs 40 crore in taxes are due.

Farmers and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have filed a case in the High Court to reopen the toll plaza. The situation at the toll plaza has now escalated, with farmer leaders and NHAI at face to face.

The High Court has ordered the toll to be reopened. Bharatiya Mazdoor Kisan Union President Dilbag Singh and Bharatiya Kisan Union Doaba’s Inderbir Singh Kadian said that all farmers and common people have been asked to reach the Ladowal toll plaza by 11 a.m. today.

A day earlier, lawyers representing the Punjab government presented the people’s case in the High Court. Dilbag Singh said that once again, the farmers will have to stage a “pucca morcha” at the Ladowal toll plaza because the High Court did not consider their side.
