No new registration of patients from Tuesday as resident doctors at PGI go on strike

Chandigarh: The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh has to halt new patient registrations starting Tuesday, due to an ongoing strike by resident doctors. The institute will only register follow-up patients between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM, who will then receive counseling in the Outpatient Department (OPD).

The decision comes as the PGI administration grapples with the challenges posed by the strike. In the absence of resident doctors, the OPD will be managed solely by the faculty members.

PGI Director Prof. Vivek Lal said, “We understand the seriousness of the situation and the concerns of resident doctors. The West Bengal incident is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by healthcare professionals across the nation.” He assured that while the administration supports the nationwide movement, patient care remains a top priority.

“We have made some adjustments to ensure continuity of care and are in constant talks with resident doctors, keeping the best interests of patients in mind,” he added.
