Financial irregularities: CBI raids premises of former principal of RG Kar Hospital, 14 others

New Delhi: The CBI on Sunday carried out searches at the premises of former principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandeep Ghosh, former MSVP Sanjay Vashisht and 13 others in Kolkata and adjoining areas in connection with its probe into alleged financial irregularities in the campus, officials said.

The CBI’s anti-corruption unit also carried out searches at the houses and offices of persons supplying material for the care and management of patients at the hospital.

At least seven CBI officials have been questioning Ghosh at his Beliaghat residence since 8 am. Others questioned by the central agency include sanjay vashisht, former medical superintendent and vice-principal of the hospital, and another professor of the forensic medical department of the hospital.

The CBI team, along with a large team of central forces, reached Ghosh’s residence at 6 am today, but the team had to wait for half an hour for the door of the house to open. Other officials of the central agency also knocked on the residence of a supplier in Howrah. Another CBI team searched the office of the former principal and also went to the canteen in the academic building.

A junior doctor was allegedly raped and murdered in the seminar hall of the same hospital on August 9. The Kolkata Police has arrested a civic volunteer in connection with the case, while Ghosh, a former principal, has been questioned for several rounds.
