NC to contest 51, Congress 32 as allies finalize seat-sharing deal in Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi: After a marathon meeting between the National Conference and the Congress for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, a consensus was reached on 83 seats on Monday.

In this, NC candidates will contest on 51 seats and Congress candidates on 32 seats. There will be a friendly contest due to lack of consensus on five seats. While one seat has been given to the CPI(M) and one seat to the Panthers Party.

After this agreement, NC has announced the list of 18 candidates. The first round of meeting between the two parties began around 12:30 pm to resolve the screw stuck on seat-sharing for some time. By 3 p.m., there was no way out.

After this, the time of the second meeting was given at four o’clock, but after four o’clock when no top Congress leader reached Farooq’s residence, there was speculation about the alliance or breaking started heating up.

At around 6:30 pm, senior Congress leaders KC Venugopal, Salman Khurshid, Pawan Khera and India Solanki reached Farooq’s residence and after about an hour’s meeting, an agreement was reached.
