Farmers to organize Kisan Maha Panchayats to mark 200 days of MSP movement
Chandigarh: On the completion of 200 days of the ongoing farmers’ protest demanding a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops, farmers are set to organize Kisan Maha Panchayats at three locations tomorrow (Saturday).
The events will be held at Datasinghwala-Khanauri and Shambhu borders, according to information provided by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
One of the key highlights of the Maha Panchayat at Datasinghwala-Khanauri border will be the presence of renowned wrestler Vinesh Phogat and her husband, Somveer Rathi.
Vinesh Phogat, who represented India in the 50 kg weight category at the Paris Olympics, will be honored by the farmers during the event. The Maha Panchayat is scheduled to begin at 11:30 am.
Vinesh Phogat made headlines during the Paris Olympics when she reached the final without losing a match. However, she was disqualified just before the final match due to a minor weight discrepancy, which led to her being ineligible for a medal. This outcome deeply disappointed the nation. Following the incident, Vinesh announced her retirement from wrestling.
Despite the setback, Vinesh was celebrated as a champion in India, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally acknowledging her efforts. The Haryana government also awarded her a prize of four lakh rupees for her silver medal performance.
