AAP MP Sant Seechewal raises farmers suicides issue in Parliament

www.punjabenews.com: During the ongoing winter session of Parliament, Rajya Sabha MP and environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal raised the issue of farmers’ suicides in the Rajya Sabha.

Quoting a report in the House, he said that from 2017 to 2021, around 53,000 farmers and labourers committed suicide as they did not get the right price for their crops.
He said that the condition of the farmers of the country is very pathetic, the farmers who have been feeding all the countrymen till date, today they themselves are sleeping hungry. It is very sad that till now farmers are not even getting the minimum support price (MSP) of every crop. In such a situation, when will the country’s farmers get the right price for his crops and when will agriculture become a profitable occupation?
Sant Seechewal said that these are the big questions that stand before the agriculture sector today. At the same time, he demanded that the loans of the farmers should also be waived off on the lines of corporates to remove burden of farmers.
