Father killed, son seriously injured in attack in Muktsar

Chandigarh: In a tragic incident in Marad Kalan village, Muktsar, a father-son duo was attacked by assailants on Friday morning, leading to the father’s death and leaving the son seriously injured.

The attack, which appears to have been carried out with the intent of robbery, occurred as the two were on their way to Bathinda to obtain medicines.

The deceased, identified as Lakhbir Singh (54), a resident of Marad Kalan, was reportedly suffering from black jaundice and was receiving treatment from PGI Chandigarh.

At around 5:30 a.m., Lakhbir Singh and his son left their home in an Alto car, traveling towards the Muktsar-Kotkapura highway via Khara Link Road. As they approached the railway gate near Marad Kalan, they were ambushed by the robbers.

The assailants stopped the car, forcibly took money and mobile phones from the father and son, and when they resisted, the robbers fatally attacked Lakhbir Singh with weapons. The son was also brutally beaten in the attack. The robbers fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Local police from Bariwala station have launched an investigation into the incident.
