Anti-Sikh riots: Delhi court frames murder charges against Tytler

New Delhi: A Delhi court today framed charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case for murder and other offences. Tytler did not confess the crime after which Special Judge Rakesh Sial directed his prosecution.

The judge had on August 30 said there were reasonable grounds to proceed with the proceedings against the accused.

A witness had earlier said in the charge sheet that Tytler had stepped out of a white ambassador car in front of Gurdwara Pul Bangash here on November 1, 1984 and instigated the crowd by saying “kill the Sikhs, they have killed our mother” and subsequently three people were killed.

The court ordered framing of charges for several other offences, including unlawful assembly, rioting, promoting enmity between different groups, house-trespass and theft.
