Panchayat polls: Sarpanch candidate climbs on tank with petrol after nomination papers rejected

Chandigarh: In village Cheema, the candidate for the election of sarpanch climbed atop the water tank with a bottle of petrol in protest against the rejection of nomination papers, while his supporters protested against the government and the administration under the tank.

Niranjan Singh, a protester, said he had filed his nomination papers for the post of sarpanch but his nomination papers were rejected due to the alleged political leanings of the opposition candidate.

He said that allegations of encroachment of panchayat land are being made to cancel his nomination, which is completely wrong. He has also filed an affidavit in this regard regularly.

He demanded that his rejected nomination papers be restored and he be given the right to contest elections and he would continue his struggle till justice is delivered.
