Punjab faces statewide road blockades as farmers, mill owners protest

Chandigarh: Punjab residents may face significant disruptions today due to a statewide road blockade warning issued for Sunday. The warning has been given by farmer groups, commission agents, and mill owners.

Under the leadership of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), a joint meeting of farmers’ unions, commission agents, laborers, and mill associations was convened on Friday at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh. They have launched a protest against the government.

Farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal announced that under the SKM banner, farmers, market laborers, commission agents, and mill owners across the state will block roads from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on October 13.

Major roads, cities, and rural areas will witness blockades as a form of protest. If the paddy procurement process is not streamlined soon, further action will be decided in a meeting scheduled for October 14 in Chandigarh.
