Tensions rise at Khanna Dussehra event after farmer’s turban removed by singer’s security

Chandigarh: Tensions erupted at a Dussehra event in Khanna, Punjab, on Saturday evening during a performance by Punjabi singer Gulab Sidhu. The chaos began when a farmer climbed onto the stage, prompting a confrontation with the singer’s security guards.

A bouncer reportedly removed the farmer’s turban and threw him off the stage, leading to a major escalation.

In response to the insult, the farmer’s son arrived at the venue with a tractor, driving it through the crowd and bringing it dangerously close to the stage, intensifying the situation. The incident angered the local villagers, who surrounded Gulab Sidhu. The singer managed to flee the scene, narrowly escaping harm.

The dispute arose because the farmer who climbed the stage owned the field where the Dussehra event was being held. The bouncers attempted to stop him, leading to an argument that resulted in the farmer’s turban being forcibly removed.

Following the incident, more villagers gathered, and when Sidhu fled, they chased after him.

Political figures like MP Amar Singh and former minister Gurkirat Singh Kotli, who were present at the event, were also confronted by the villagers, prompting the local police to intervene and escort them out safely.

The villagers refused to allow the removal of the stage and other equipment from the field, demanding that the bouncers responsible for the insult apologize and re-tie the farmer’s turban on stage.

They have threatened to set the equipment on fire if their demands are not met. Senior police official Saurabh Jindal arrived at the scene with a police team to calm the situation and assured the villagers of action. However, the villagers and the farmer remained firm on their stance.
