Punjab gram panchayat polls conclude, migrant laborer wins in Hoshiarpur village
Chandigarh: Polling for gram panchayats in Punjab concluded on Tuesday under tight security. Voting for the posts of ‘sarpanch’ and ‘panch’ was conducted via ballot papers from 8 am to 4 pm, officials reported.
Vote counting began immediately after the polls closed at the respective polling stations.
A total of 3,798 candidates had already been elected unopposed for sarpanch positions.
In Dagana Khurd, a village near Hoshiarpur, migrant laborer Ram Bai secured a victory for the sarpanch post with 47 votes out of 107 cast. His opponent, Seema, managed only 17 votes.
Ram Bai, who has lived in the village for 25-30 years and previously served as sarpanch, expressed gratitude to the villagers for electing him again. He pledged to complete ongoing development projects and thanked the community for their continued trust in his leadership.
