Chandigarh: Polling for gram panchayats in Punjab concluded on Tuesday under tight security. Voting for the posts of ‘sarpanch’ and ‘panch’ was conducted via ballot papers from 8 am to 4 pm, officials reported.

Vote counting began immediately after the polls closed at the respective polling stations.

A total of 3,798 candidates had already been elected unopposed for sarpanch positions.

In Dagana Khurd, a village near Hoshiarpur, migrant laborer Ram Bai secured a victory for the sarpanch post with 47 votes out of 107 cast. His opponent, Seema, managed only 17 votes.
