Another foreign paraglider dies in Manali ahead of World Cup Event
Shimla: In a tragic incident just a day after a Belgian paraglider’s death, a 43-year-old Czech paraglider, identified as Dita Misurkova, died following a collision with a hillside in Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
Authorities report that this marks the second paragliding fatality within 48 hours in the region, ahead of the Paragliding World Cup 2024 set to commence on November 2 in Beed-Billing, Kangra district.
The accident occurred on Wednesday near Marhi in Manali, when Misurkova reportedly lost control of her glider due to strong winds.
She was immediately taken to a hospital in Manali, where doctors pronounced her dead. Officials said that Misurkova was an experienced paraglider with six years of experience.
This follows the death of Belgian paraglider, identified as 65-year-old Feyaret, who lost his life on Tuesday after a mid-air collision with another paraglider in Beed-Billing.
In that incident, Feyaret’s parachute failed to open fully after the collision, leading to his fatal crash, while a Polish paraglider sustained injuries. Vinay Dhiman, Deputy Director of Tourism for Kangra district, confirmed the details.
