Canada alleges Amit Shah ordered campaign targeting Sikh separatists
Ottawa: Canada’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Morrison, has alleged that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah directed a campaign involving violence, threats, and intelligence gathering aimed at Sikh separatists in Canada.
Morrison shared the information with lawmakers on the National Security Committee, stating that he had confirmed Shah’s name to The Washington Post, which initially reported the allegations.
In his statement to the committee, Morrison mentioned a conversation with a journalist, saying, “The journalist called me and asked if he was the same person. I confirmed that this is the same person.”
Morrison admitted to disclosing details of India’s alleged interference in Canada to the U.S. newspaper but did not specify how Canada became aware of Shah’s purported involvement.
The Indian Embassy in Ottawa has not yet responded to requests for comments on these allegations.
