Thousands take solidarity rally against attack on Hindus temple in Canada

Brampton: More than 1,000 Canadian Hindus gathered outside the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton on Monday evening to hold a solidarity rally, protesting repeated attacks on temples by Khalistani separatists.

The rally followed an attack on the Hindu Sabha Temple by Khalistani supporters the previous day and called on Canadian politicians and law enforcement to take stronger action.

The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) shared details of the rally on social media platform X, highlighting the recent spate of attacks on Hindu temples across Canada during Diwali weekend. CoHNA expressed concern over what it described as growing “Hindu phobia” and called for measures to address the attacks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the incident, urging Canadian authorities to ensure justice. “I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a temple in Canada. Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve,” Modi stated. “We hope the Canadian government will ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”

Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also voiced concerns, urging prosecution for those involved in the violence. He emphasized the need for safety and security for Indian citizens in Canada, adding that “access for our consular officers to provide services to both Indians and Canadians must not be hindered by intimidation, harassment, or violence.”
