CM Mann envisions to make Punjab an international tourist hub by 2030
Punjab E News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann aims to establish Punjab as an international tourist destination by 2030, with a focus on preserving the state’s rich culture, arts, and heritage.
Currently, cities like Amritsar, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib attract substantial numbers of visitors. Now, the Punjab government plans to place additional cities on the tourism map, potentially generating new job opportunities for the state’s youth. In pursuit of this goal, the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has launched several initiatives, including festivals such as the Madhi Mahotsav in Shri Muktsar Sahib, the Kapurthala Heritage Festival, and the Ludhiana Rural Olympics at Kila Raipur.
Other heritage events have already taken place, such as the Baba Sheikh Farid Arrival festival in Faridkot, the Hari Singh Nalwa festival in Gurdaspur, and the Chhinj Mela in Tarn Taran.
Chief Minister Mann said, “Our government will leave no stone unturned in promoting Punjab as a global tourist destination. The glorious heritage of Punjabis has long fascinated people worldwide. Every inch of Punjab’s soil bears the legacy of spiritual leaders, martyrs, and poets. With over 100,000 devotees visiting Amritsar daily, we’re now focused on highlighting unique aspects of other locations across Punjab. Each village holds monuments to freedom fighters who sacrificed for the nation, stories that need to be shared with the world.”
To ensure visitor safety, the Punjab government also plans to introduce a tourism police program. Initially set to launch in Amritsar as a pilot project, this unit will be easily recognizable by distinct uniforms designed to make officers visible to tourists.
