Chandigarh University student dies by suicide after killing girlfriend

Chandigarh: A Zambian student of Chandigarh University, 24-year-old Saviour Chicoppela, allegedly died by suicide in police custody on Wednesday. Chicoppela had been arrested for the alleged murder of his batchmate, Tanzanian student Nooru Mari.

The murder accused, 24-year-old Saviour Chicoppela of Zambia, who was arrested, allegedly hanged himself while on custody at the Sunny Enclave police post in Kharar on Wednesday, officials said.

Officials said the deceased allegedly committed suicide by using a thin nylon rope from the jail mesh inside the police station.

Police rushed him to the Civil Hospital in Kharar around 12.10 pm where he was declared brought dead. After the incident, the gates of the police post were closed on Thursday morning.
