Punjab CM’s push for reverse migration: Over 40,000 jobs created for youth
Punjab E News: Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has facilitated the employment of over 40,000 youths, aiming to encourage reverse migration and provide local opportunities.
Elected with promises to improve sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, Mann’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has launched several key initiatives, including the School of Eminence for education reform and “Mohalla Clinics” to expand healthcare access. The administration also introduced free electricity for Punjab residents, further bolstering Mann’s popularity as he strives to improve daily life for ordinary citizens.
Data shows that since April 2022, the Mann government has delivered 17,313 government jobs across 48 departments, with significant hiring in the School Education (4,662 positions), Police (4,374), and Local Bodies (3,600). The Medical College and Health Department hired 697 and 520 individuals, respectively.
Likewise, the Punjab Cabinet approved the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for university and government college faculty, fulfilling a longstanding demand and strengthening support for educators.
Employment Milestone: Over 25,000 Government Jobs in Ten Months
In a public address, Mann affirmed the state’s commitment to job creation, revealing that 25,886 government positions were awarded in just 10 months. This announcement was made while handing appointment letters to 271 doctors, 90 lab technicians, and 17 support staff in the Health and Family Welfare Department.
A Transparent and Merit-Based Recruitment Process
Chief Minister Mann emphasized that these appointments were conducted through a transparent, merit-based process. In August 2024, while distributing 417 appointment letters, Mann stated that over 44,687 young people had been employed through open competition, inspiring many to remain in Punjab rather than seeking employment abroad. Mann noted that, unlike previous administrations, his government’s primary focus has been empowering youth through secure public sector jobs.
Meanwhile, CM Mann lashed out at previous governments and said that despite their long tenures, had not taken similar steps for youth welfare, asserting that his administration’s efforts will play a significant role in Punjab’s socio-economic progress.
