Adani Group denies signing airport deal in Kenya
New Delhi: The Adani Group clarified on Thursday that it had not signed any agreement to operate Kenya’s main airport, following reports of the cancellation of deals worth over USD 2.5 billion.
The group also addressed the cancellation of a recent agreement for the construction and operation of power transmission lines, stating that the project does not fall under Sebi norms and, therefore, does not require disclosure of its cancellation.
Earlier, Kenyan authorities announced the termination of multiple agreements with the Adani Group, including a major airport expansion and energy projects.
Kenyan President William Ruto attributed the decision to allegations of bribery and fraud against Gautam Adani, brought forward by the United States.
In a national address, President Ruto stated that the decision was based on information from investigating agencies and partner nations. The renovation of Nairobi’s main airport, including the construction of a new terminal on an airstrip, was among the projects affected by this move.
