Main accused in Delhi policeman’s murder killed in police encounter

New Delhi: Delhi Police resolved the murder case of Constable Kiranpal within 24 hours. After arresting two of the accused, the prime suspect, Raghav alias Rocky, was killed in an encounter late Saturday night.

Constable Kiranpal was fatally stabbed by three assailants during a patrol in the early hours of Saturday. The incident, which raised questions about security arrangements in the national capital, occurred near Govindpuri police station, where Kiranpal was posted.

According to the Delhi Police, Rocky was located in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar area around midnight. When officers instructed him to surrender, he reportedly opened fire at close range. Police retaliated, injuring Rocky in the shootout. He was rushed to ESIC Hospital in Okhla but succumbed to his injuries. The encounter was carried out jointly by the local police and the Special Cell.

Kiranpal, a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, had stopped the three suspects during his patrol, leading to a confrontation. The accused attacked him with a knife, leaving him critically injured.

Residents discovered Kiranpal lying in a pool of blood near the main intersection of Street Number 13 the following morning. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police identified the suspects after reviewing CCTV footage and arrested two of them before tracking down Rocky.
