Delhi Selection Board apologises for barring Amritdhari girl from exam
New Delhi: The Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) has issued an apology in the Delhi High Court for preventing an Amritdhari Sikh girl from appearing for an exam in 2021 due to her wearing a Sikh kakar.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 101 on the board. Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Harmeet Singh Kalka and General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said that the High Court directed the DSSSB to re-conduct the examination while ensuring the post remains vacant for the candidate. The board submitted a written apology through an affidavit.
Kalka said that wearing the Sikh kakar is a constitutional right and vowed that the DSGMC would take legal measures to safeguard this right wherever Sikh students face challenges.
He assured that the committee would continue to support Sikh students in India and abroad.
