India registers biggest Test win in Australia, takes lead in WTC standings

New Delhi: India achieved a historic 295-run victory over Australia on the fourth day of the first Test in Adelaide, marking their biggest win on Australian soil. The comprehensive win, spearheaded by captain Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, gave India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series and propelled them back to the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

India’s resurgence in the WTC table follows a disappointing 0-3 home series loss to New Zealand. The team now has 110 points from 15 matches, with nine wins, five losses, and a draw, translating to a points percentage of 61.11. Australia is second with 90 points from 13 matches, holding a 57.69 percentage.

Chasing a daunting target of 534, Australia was bowled out for 238 in just 58.4 overs. Stand-in captain Bumrah (3/42) and Siraj (3/51) dismantled Australia’s top and middle order, while debutants Nitish Kumar Reddy (2/21) and Harshit Rana (1/69), along with Washington Sundar (2/48), cleaned up the tail.
