Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh convenes meeting at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, likely to pronounce punishment to Badal

Amritsar: Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has scheduled a meeting of the five Sikh Jathedars at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar on December 2 at 1 pm. Invitations have been extended to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal, ministers who served during the 2007-2017 term, members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) executive committee from 2015, and current SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami.

The meeting has sparked speculation regarding potential disciplinary action against Sukhbir Badal and SAD ministers from 2007-2017.

Recently, Sukhbir Badal appeared at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, urging that a decision be made on his case. Over three months ago, he was declared a “Takhaiya” (erring individual) but has not yet received a formal sentence.

During his appearance, Badal submitted a written request stating that due to “special circumstances,” he should be permitted to contest and campaign in the ongoing by-election. He emphasized that the Panth and Punjab have suffered significant setbacks due to his inability to participate in the elections.

He further appealed for an expedited decision on his case, arguing that it would allow him to counter “anti-sectarian forces.”

Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh recently hinted at the possibility of convening such a meeting to address the pending issues, raising further anticipation regarding its outcome.
