Jagjit Singh Dallewal sends message from hospital, vows to continue hunger strike

Ludhiana: Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who was detained by Punjab Police ahead of his planned fast unto death, has sent a message to protesting farmers from DMC Hospital, Ludhiana. Dallewal reaffirmed his commitment to the farmers’ cause, declaring that he will continue his hunger strike “till his last breath” unless their demands are met.

Dallewal, a prominent figure in the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political), was taken into custody early Tuesday before he could begin his protest at the Khanauri border. His detention has sparked anger among farmers, prompting a new strategy led by Sukhjit Singh Hardojhande, who has now taken up the hunger strike at the protest site.

Bhartiya Kisan Union (Azad) state president Amarjit Singh Rara and Pagdi Sanchar general secretary Gurnam Singh Jahanpur, who visited Dallewal in the hospital, relayed his message to the farmers. They quoted him saying, “Take the morcha forward with determination. The government will use its full force, but I will not end my fast until the demands are met.”

Dallewal urged farmers to continue gathering at the Khanauri border to strengthen the movement. The protest comes amid growing tension as the farmers demand the Central government fulfill promises made during earlier negotiations.
