Corruption case filed against Khanna municipal council president
Chandigarh: A case has been registered against Kamaljit Singh Ladhar, president of the Municipal Council Khanna, on charges of corruption and cheating. Junior Engineer Ajay Kumar Gaba and contractor Pawan Kumar have also been named in the case.
The complaint was lodged by Charanjit Singh Ubhi, executive officer of the municipal council, under Sections 409, 420, and 120B of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The allegations involve the embezzlement of Rs 3.17 lakh from a tender worth Rs 4.20 lakh, floated for constructing a street in Ward 25, known as Veeru Grocery Wali Gali. Following an inquiry conducted by technical officials, it was revealed that the lane had not been constructed with interlocking tiles as claimed.
The case has sparked political tension in Khanna. On November 27, a confrontation occurred when SHO Hardeep Singh of Police Station City-2 visited Ladhar’s residence.
Executive Officer Charanjit Singh stated that the investigation began after a complaint from Councillor Parampreet Singh Pompey of Ward 16. Based on preliminary findings, the SSP referred the matter to DSP Khanna, who later called Ladhar and Ward Councillor Amandeep Kaur to present their statements. However, both failed to appear.
The police sought a legal opinion from the district attorney before registering the case. Further investigations are underway.
