ICC warns Pakistan: Accept hybrid model or face exclusion from Champions Trophy 2025
New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a stern ultimatum to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the hosting of the 2025 Champions Trophy. During an emergency ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai on Friday, the PCB was urged to adopt the hybrid model or risk losing the tournament altogether.
The meeting, convened to finalize the tournament’s framework, saw Pakistan reject the hybrid model proposed to address India’s security concerns about touring Pakistan. Under this model, India’s matches would be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while other matches would take place in Pakistan.
An ICC source emphasized the financial stakes, stating, “No broadcaster will pay for any ICC tournament that does not involve India.”
The ICC has scheduled another meeting on Saturday, contingent on Pakistan’s agreement to the hybrid model. The council warned that if Pakistan remains unwilling to compromise, the Champions Trophy could be relocated to another country, excluding Pakistan from participation.
