AAP MLA Naresh Yadav convicted in Quran Sharif sacrilege case
New Delhi: Naresh Yadav, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Delhi’s Mehrauli constituency, has been convicted in a case related to the sacrilege of the Quran Sharif in Punjab’s Malerkotla in June 2016. The incident occurred during the tenure of the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) government.
The Malerkotla court is expected to announce the sentence today. The case dates back to June 21, 2016, when torn pages of the Quran Sharif were discovered on Zarg Road in Malerkotla. The incident, which surfaced just before the 2017 Punjab Assembly elections, sparked widespread protests, including sit-in demonstrations.
Yadav, along with three others, was accused in the case, leading to significant public outrage at the time. The police registered a case against the four suspects as the situation escalated.
