20-year-old IPS officer dies in road accident en route to first posting

New Delhi: A tragic accident claimed the life of Harsh Bardhan, a 20-year-old IPS officer of the 2023 Karnataka cadre, on Sunday evening. Bardhan, who hailed from Madhya Pradesh, was on his way to report for duty as a probationary assistant superintendent of police in Holenarasipur, Hassan district, when the incident occurred.

The accident took place near Kitane in Hassan taluka after the tyre of the police vehicle allegedly burst. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to collide with a roadside house and a tree, officials reported.

Bardhan sustained severe head injuries and succumbed during treatment at a hospital, while the driver, Manjegowda, escaped with minor injuries.

Bardhan had recently completed his four-week training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysore and was en route to his first posting. Senior police officials expressed their condolences over the untimely loss.
