Sukhbir Badal awaits sentence at Sri Akal Takht Sahib; arrives in wheelchair

Amritsar: A crucial meeting of five Sikh Sahibans is underway at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, located at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

Senior leaders, including the Jathedar, former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ministers from 2007 to 2017, executive members of the 2015 Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), and current SGPC President Harjinder Singh Advocate, are in attendance.

Sukhbir Singh Badal, the SAD President, arrived in a wheelchair due to a leg fracture. He was declared a Tankhaiya (religious offender) on August 30 in connection with several anti-sectarian incidents, including cases of sacrilege.

Badal and 17 former Akali ministers have since submitted written explanations to the Akal Takht Sahib.

Badal recently appeared at the Akal Takht Sahib, urging the five Sikh Sahibans to deliver their verdict after more than three months of deliberations.

Following today’s meeting, the five Sikh Sahibans are expected to convene at the throne of the Akal Takht to announce the sentence.
