Farmer protest march disrupts traffic at Delhi-Noida border
New Delhi: Farmers from Uttar Pradesh staged a protest march towards Delhi today, leading to significant traffic disruptions at the Delhi-Noida border. The protest was organized by the Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), with participants demanding increased compensation for government-acquired land and resolution of longstanding agricultural issues.
Farmers gathered at the Mahamaya flyover on the Dadri-Noida link road around 11:30 a.m. and began their march. The demonstration saw participation from farmers across 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Aligarh and Agra.
In response, police set up barricades and deployed heavy security, preventing the march from advancing into the national capital. Scuffles broke out between the farmers and police as protestors attempted to breach the barricades. Some farmers climbed over the barriers, but police managed to stop them at the border. Senior police officials engaged with the protesters in an attempt to defuse tensions.
The protest caused severe traffic jams, particularly at Chilla border, DND flyover, Delhi Gate, and Kalindi Kunj, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Authorities conducted thorough checks at key points, exacerbating delays.
Farmers claim their unresolved issues have led to a worsening economic crisis, prompting the march. Despite the disruptions, police emphasized maintaining order and preventing any escalation.
