Clashes erupt between farmers and police in Mansa, several injured
Chandigarh: Violent clashes broke out between farmers and police in Mansa early this morning as farmers from Sangrur district were en route to Bathinda to protest against the Gujarat gas pipeline project. The confrontation resulted in several injuries and vehicles being vandalised.
The incident occurred around 3:00 am when police set up a blockade in Mansa to prevent the farmers from reaching their destination in the village of Leleana, Bathinda. The situation escalated when farmers allegedly attacked the police during a lathicharge. In the ensuing melee, several police officers and farmers sustained injuries.
Among the injured are the Station House Officers (SHOs) of Bhikhi, Mansa, Budhlada, and Mansa Sadar. Other police personnel were also hurt, while some injured farmers were admitted to the Civil Hospital in Mansa for treatment.
Reports indicate that several vehicles were damaged during the clashes. While the situation has been brought under control, neither police officials nor farmer leaders have issued statements regarding the incident.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the violence.
