22-year-old Punjabi youth killed in Canada over minor dispute

Toronto: A 22-year-old Punjabi youth, Gurasis Singh, was murdered on Sunday in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, following a minor dispute.

The incident occurred at a rental house on Queen’s Road, where Singh and the accused, identified as 35-year-old Crossley Hunter, lived.

Singh, originally from Ludhiana, Punjab, had recently moved to Canada for higher studies after completing his B.Tech.

He was pursuing engineering studies at Lambton College. The Sarnia police confirmed Hunter’s arrest and charged him with second-degree murder.

Authorities have not disclosed the exact motive for the crime but suggested it was not premeditated, likely arising from a disagreement between the two men.

Neighbours, who often saw them together and believed they were friends, expressed shock upon learning of the murder.

According to the police, Singh sustained multiple deep wounds, believed to have been inflicted by a sharp weapon. His family was informed of his death through a phone call from the police.

Investigators have indicated that additional charges may be filed pending a medical report.

The incident has left the local community shaken, and police continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
