Born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Zakir Hussain was the son of legendary tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha Qureshi and Biwi Begum. Following in his father’s footsteps, he became one of India’s most celebrated musicians. Hussain performed his first concert in the United States at the age of 11 and went on to release his debut album Living in the Material World in 1973.
