Verdict in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case against Sajjan Kumar deferred to January 8
New Delhi: A Delhi court has deferred its verdict in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case against former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who was set to announce the decision on Monday, has postponed the proceedings to January 8, 2024.
“The next date is January 8,” the judge stated while adjourning the matter. Kumar, currently lodged in Tihar Central Jail, attended the hearing via video conferencing.
The case involves the alleged killings of two individuals, Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh, in the Saraswati Vihar area during the riots.
Initially registered by the Punjabi Bagh police, the case was later handed over to a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The court framed charges against Kumar on December 16, 2021, citing “prima facie” evidence of his involvement. The final arguments concluded on November 1, 2024, before the court reserved its verdict.
