Rahul Gandhi demands Amit Shah’s apology over Ambedkar remarks
New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has called for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to apologise for remarks made in the Rajya Sabha, asserting that the nation will not tolerate any disrespect toward Babasaheb Ambedkar.
Gandhi, along with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other MPs from the INDIA bloc, staged a protest in the Parliament premises demanding an apology.
In a Facebook post written in Hindi, Gandhi described Ambedkar as the architect of the Constitution and a visionary leader who gave direction to the country.
“The country will not tolerate disrespect to him or the Constitution he drafted. The Home Minister must apologise,” he said, sharing images of the protest.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also weighed in, posting images of the demonstration on X. She highlighted Ambedkar’s enduring significance, saying, “Taking Ambedkar ji’s name signifies rights, dignity, and self-respect for crores of Dalits and the deprived.”
Additionally, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh shared a video of Shah’s contentious speech on X, amplifying the party’s call for accountability.
