Punjab municipal elections to be held tomorrow
Chandigarh: Punjab will hold elections for five municipal corporations—Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Phagwara—and 44 municipal councils and nagar panchayats on December 21. Polling is scheduled from 7 am to 4 pm, with the results expected on the same day.
A spokesperson for the Punjab State Election Commission announced that a special holiday has been declared for government employees and other workers to cast their votes. Additionally, schools used as polling stations will remain closed tomorrow. To ensure a smooth electoral process, December 21 has also been declared a ‘dry day.’
In light of the elections, all annual and semester examinations of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, Punjabi University Patiala, and Panjab University Chandigarh, scheduled for December 21, have been postponed.
Meanwhile, election staff departed for polling stations today with EVMs and other necessary materials. Authorities have confirmed extensive security arrangements to maintain order during the elections.
