SGPC president Dhami performs religious punishment for misbehaviour towards Bibi Jagir Kaur
Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami appeared before the Panj Pyaras of Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Wednesday over allegations of using abusive language against former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur.
As penance, Advocate Dhami was directed to perform various services, including cleaning the joints of the sangat, cooking langar, and reciting Japji Sahib. He also cleaned the shoes of devotees at the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex to comply with the disciplinary orders.
The controversy erupted after Dhami made objectionable remarks about Bibi Jagir Kaur.
Acknowledging his misconduct, Dhami had earlier submitted a written apology to Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and publicly expressed remorse to Kaur. The Punjab State Women’s Commission had also summoned him for clarification, where he admitted his mistake.
Following the orders of the Panj Pyaras, Dhami performed his assigned duties at the Couple’s House and Langar Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, fulfilling his penance as instructed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
